Melchizedek was a high priest that "took upon him the high priesthood forever" (Alma 13: 14). He was one who collected tithes, even from Abraham. Abraham actually received the priesthood from Melchizedek. He was able to preach repentance to his wicked people because he had been so faithful. The people of Salem did repent and lived in peace after he preached to them.
These few things about Melchizedek are more than I ever knew. Even though we hear the name all the time in the church, I have never really bothered to research or learn about him. I really didn't know anything. I'm glad this was a choice for my assignment because it really helped me understand some of the history of the church. What really impressed me about him is that he preached about repentance and his people did what he said they should. To me that shows that he was a great leader and example to so many people.
